Kwepena Festival

A multicultural celebration of over 30 traditional African games bring together over 4000 youth annually under different themes at
multiple venues since 2018. This is significant event backed by multiple partners like KQ Hub Africa, Coca Cola, SafeBoda, UNFPA, Safepal, the Uganda Museum, Uganda National Cultural Centre, Galaxy FM and many more. The festival features traditional performances, traditional sports knowledge exchange, competition and a space for partners to advocate for different social issues.

A festival built around African play

The Kwepena Festival brings sport and culture into the same space. Traditional games are its starting point, with performances and knowledge exchange helping participants understand the heritage behind the activities.

From watching to taking part

The festival combines opportunities to play, compete and learn. This makes it a meeting place for young people, families, schools, cultural practitioners and organisations interested in the future of African traditional games.

The next chapter: Kwepena Kulture Festival

Cheza’s developing Kwepena Kulture Festival vision connects a traditional sports village with competition, cultural performances, arts, food and family activities. Future dates, venues and partner participation will be communicated through confirmed event announcements.
